Essendon are wearing seatbelt guernseys on Friday night against Collingwood

Nothing to do with the TAC and road safety, it’s to recognise the fact that their last 20 years, as recently as last Saturday, have resembled one giant flaming car crash.

Or, based on the way that seatbelt is positioned, they’re wearing seatbelts because 95% of the team are passengers…

Or, or, or or, it’s because they know they’re going to get BELTED again!

Funnily enough, Essendon did the same TAC promotional seatbelt guernsey in Round 20 of 2010 to mark 40 years of compulsory seatbelts in Victoria, and in very similar circumstances to this weekend, it was a Friday night game against a ladder-leading Collingwood at the MCG.

Rather appropriately, the 2010 game resembled a horrific car crash for the Bombers, as Collingwood won by 98 points on the way to the premiership, and the Bombers sacked Matthew Knights a fortnight later.

I also liked a few things from the Essendon website article about the initiative, first of all the title is a ripping pun:

And there was this image:

It’s funny you mention that sash, because based on the last 20 years, that red sash has RUINED lives.
