Michael Owen’s riveting tale about chucking an apple into a bin to gain approval from his father as a child

This is an excerpt from an interview on Up Front With Simon Jordan last week, when they’re talking about his mental approach to life (It starts 5 minutes in) thanks to his upbringing with his father Terry (Who played 3rd and 4th Division football)….

And out of relatively nowhere, Michael brings up a story about him lobbing an apple 6 metres into a bin next to his TV as a kid, and how he’d have the “Bravery” to miss, stain the wall and get a bollocking from his mum, which somehow gave him the confidence and dare to do the same thing the next day, desperately thinking his father would give him a wink simply because he had the stones have to another crack and land the shot.

Now, just think about this – Michael Owen is the only Englishman in the last 40 years to win the Ballon d’Or.

Maybe that’s why David Beckham’s kids never played top division football… Victoria wouldn’t let them lob apples at the wall.
