Was that Shamar Joseph or Sir Curtly Ambrose destroying Australia

A fun fact about that performance from the West Indies yesterday – Shamar Joseph is the first West Indian bowler to take a 7fer in Australia since Sir Curtly’s famous spell of 7 wickets for 1 run at the WACA in 1993, in which he finished with 7 for 25.

We’re actually only a day shy of that anniversary – January 30, 1993!

I was going to check and see if Curtly’s 7fer was the last time a West Indian had taken 7 wickets against Australia in a Test match, but it turns out it wasn’t quite correct, because Jermaine Lawson took 7 for 78 in the 1st Innings of the 4th Test at Antigua in 2003, a Test match best remembered for Ramnaresh Sarwan and Glenn McGrath’s sledging duel, and the West Indies chasing down a world record 418 in the final innings, which stood as their last Test win against Australia until the events of Sunday afternoon.

On another note, Lawson was also reported for a suspect bowling action during that match, and didn’t play another Test for 12 months.
