Celebrating the 4th of July with a great moment in Australian-American relations

Forget about the ’83 America’s Cup, Paul Hogan hosting the Academy Awards, Luc Longley, or that Simpsons episode which led to serious discussion about changing our currency to Dollarydoos…

Have you ever played knifey-spooney? I have.

Today, we recognise when certified Texan Mason Cox cost Richmond what turned out to be a Fourpeat and got ‘USA’ chants from Collingwood supporters.

Who would win?

A team who were the defending premiers, who had finished 2 games clear on top, had won 20 consecutive games at the MCG…

Or 1 Lanky Yankee.

Let us not also forget that when it comes to Australian-American relations, Fox Sports 1 once played an AFL game LIVE on the 4th of July in 2020.

Only problem was, it was a game between a winless Adelaide team and a winless Fremantle team on the Gold Coast.
