Random facts from Game III of State of Origin, where 4 is the magic number

After catching my breath after that fantastic display of rugby league…

Game III of 2024 was only the second time in Origin history that Queensland haven’t scored a try in Game III of a series (In this the 43rd 3-game Origin series), and the first time they haven’t scored a try in a Game III at Lang Park.

The only other time it occurred until tonight was the deciding Game III in 1992, when New South Wales won 16-4 at the old SFS, with Queensland’s points coming from 2 penalty kicks from Mal Meninga.

It was also the third time that Queensland have scored exactly 4 points in a Game III, after the aforementioned 1992 game, and the dead rubber of 2007, when Justin Hodges scored Queensland’s only points in an 18-4 defeat, with the Maroons having already won the series.

But yes, that should tell you how good New South Wales’ defensive performance was tonight.
