Another Rafael Nadal-Carlos Alcaraz coincidence from the French Open

Back in April of 2022, there was a coincidence that popped up regarding Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal, in that Alcaraz won the 2022 Barcelona Open exactly 17 years to the day (April 24) that an 18-year-old Nadal won the Barcelona title for the first time, and the next day (April 25) was 17 years to the day that both Spaniards debut in the ATP’s Top 10… adding to it, Alcaraz was the first teenager to be ranked in the Top 10 since Nadal.

Another interesting fact from those titles is that Nadal defeated compatriot and another former World No.1 in Juan Carlos Ferrero to win that 2005 title… Ferrero has coached Alcaraz since 2019.

Now, after that epic comeback in the Men’s Final in Paris on Sunday evening, we have this:

Rafael Nadal won his 5th major title against Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2008, his age on the day of the final was 22 years, 1 month and 3 days.

Carlos Alcaraz won his 5th major title against Jannik Sinner at the French Open in 2025, his age on the day of the final was 22 years, 1 month and 3 days.

And to cap it all off, both of those finals were 5 set epics in which the World No.1 was defeated, and they will deservedly sit in the list of the greatest Grand Slam finals ever seen.
