Before Perth was transformed into Atlantis thanks to 71mm of rain on Sunday, I played in the 3-bowl pairs at Manning on Saturday afternoon with Nigel, the Welshman from Wales, and needless to say, it went very well as we won both games and claimed 1st Overall:
The first game (against Margie and Derrick the Scotsman) was won 15-10 despite being 0-8 down after 4 ends, but we got it back to 9-10 with 2 ends to play as Derrick stopped dropping bombs on us, then we applied the blowtorch to devastating effect by picking up a 5 on the penultimate end, and from there easily defended the lead on the final end by ultimately getting shot to win 15-10.

Then with the money on the line, we won the second game (against Eric and Kim) convincingly 19-6, thanks almost entirely to a 6 and a 5 on the 7th and 8th ends to pretty much decide the result there and then (The score rocketed from 4-4 to 15-4), as other 11 ends were all filled with 1s and 2s in what was for the most part a good contest, with Eric’s noted driving ability stopping us from holding a good half dozen more shots.

So, myself and Nigel got $40 each for finishing 1st overall, and after the day is over the common course of action is that someone from the club will send the results in to The West Australian to appear in the Monday sports results, so there I was all excited at the local IGA on Monday morning, I open up the Sports Results and…
THE TOP 2 WEREN’T BLOODY WELL IN THERE.
THEY HAD EVERYTHING FROM THE 3-BOWL PAIRS EXCEPT THE TOP 2 PAIRS.

ROBBED… RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!
WOULDN’T EVEN WRAP MY FISH AND CHIPS IN THAT RAG OF A PAPER.
Seeking to rectify this injustice, I sent the results in again, and on Tuesday…..
WE MADE AN APPEARANCE.

And by pool room, I mean the file with all my Social pairs wins at Manning since 2022.
Anyway, always great making an appearance in the West Australian, alongside all the stories about how crap West Coast are, when is Nic Naitanui coming back, and Matt Shirvington taking over from David Koch on Sunrise.
