A summary of how rubbish the Monaco Grand Prix was

Thanks mainly to the Lap 1 Red Flag, the Monaco Grand Prix was the first race in history to have:

– The Top 7 finish in the order they started on the grid

– The Top 8 finish in the order they started on the grid

– The Top 9 finish in the order they started on the grid

– The Top 10 finish in the order they started on the grid

The previous record for a race result matching the starting grid was the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix, in which the Top 6 finished in their starting positions, and thanks to the Red Flag, this race completely shat it out of the water.

In short, the race could be summed by this radio message from Max Verstappen, who pitted behind George Russell, comfortably made up 20 seconds in a handful of laps on fresh Hard tyres, and still couldn’t pass Russell’s Mercedes on 76-lap old Mediums.
