After going 2/4 with a second last week, this week the Gary Harley Favourite Backing Guide managed to finish no lower than second in all four legs, but we once again went 2/4 thanks to Bowman and Cummings, who came in like International Rescue to save our backsides.

Of course it was a disgraceful debut for Crazy Craig, whose crazy lay Fabergino only won by 4 lengths.

Now, for the review of all of today’s performers:

Rosehill Race 2, No.3 Tassort ($1.85 fav)

1100m Group Two Silver Slipper- 2nd

First up since November, he sat last in running and did run on nicely to beat home McLaren and Faretti, but Time To Reign ($11) bounced back from a disappointing run at Warwick Farm and shot away to win the Silver Slipper by 2 1/2 lengths.

Of course his half-sister She Will Reign (Both out of the mare Courgette) also won the Silver Slipper on the way to her Golden Slipper win in 2017, and has moved into a $9 second favourite behind Tassort, who remains as a $5 favourite.

Caulfield 5, No.1 Zousain ($1.40 fav)

1200m Group Three Zediative Stakes- 2nd

With the scratching of Tin Hat, Zousain started a dominant $1.40 favourite, and proved himself to be a complete shitkicker/milk drinker/cat, take your pick of the insults, he did shit all once again, being unable to run down Terbium, who is still unbeaten after 4 starts for Phil Stokes.

It was a close contest between this and Nature Strip in the Oakleigh for who was the most underwhelming favourite of the day.

Caulfield Race 6, No.11 Alizee ($2.70 fav)

1400m Group One Futurity Stakes- WINNER

It was a nervous watch as Bowman went forward from Barrier 11 and ultimately got caught three-wide the trip. Fortunately, Hughie has had plenty of experience riding hot pots in Group Ones of late, and he never panicked, peeling her out four-wide on the turn then lifting her home over the roughie Malaguerra ($9) and stablemate Hartnell ($4.25).

James Cummings said the mare was in superb form and despite having excuses, she didn’t disappoint.

She’s apples!

It kicked off a Group One double for the Blue Army at The Heath, with Lyre (One of the few blue runners in Australia not trained by Cummings) winning the Blue Diamond in the next race for Anthony Freedman.

4. Caulfield Race 9, No.8 Avilius ($1.95 fav)

1800m Group Two Peter Young Stakes- WINNER

Bowman decided to use the inside gate to boot up and sit 5th on the fence, and once again didn’t panic as he got clear at the 300m and drew away from Trap For Fools ($3.50) and Ace High ($5.25) to score another classy win.

Avilius has again tightened his grip on the Australian Cup in a fortnight, moving into $2.20, and to be honest, only bad luck can stop him!

Crazy Craig’s Lay Of The Day

Ascot Race 5, No.4 Fabergino ($1.60)- WINNER

We don’t call him Crazy Craig for nothing, and Fabergino showed just how craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy he is, because the grey mare started in the red at $1.60 and returned in fine style, blowing away field by a lazy 4 lengths despite covering ground in the early stages.

Back to your cave until next week Crazy Craig!
