Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town

Alright friends, there is at least one decent race on this weekend, as we mark the running of the Group 1 Doomben Cup in Brisbane, and this is always my favourite statistical race in Australia, because Might and Power’s race record time from 1998, when the race was run over 2020m, is 2.00.530.
27 years on, that time is STILL FASTER than the current 2000m record at Doomben, which is 2.00.960, set by Real Love in the Group 3 JRA Cup in 2016.
Of course, the other side fact to that ride is that it wasn’t Jimmy Cassidy riding Might and Power that day, it was Brian York as Pumper got the sack from the Cups Double winner after losing to Gold Guru in the Ranvet Stakes… Cassidy didn’t reclaim the ride until the Yalumba Stakes (A race now named after Might and Power) in the Spring of ’98, won the race, then won the Cox Plate with a race record time, joining Rising Fast in completing the Melbourne Spring grand slam, and becoming the first reigning Melbourne Cup winner since Phar Lap in 1931 to win the Cox Plate.
Other than that, there’s some craphouse meeting at Sandown, Randwick gets a meeting, there’s even one in Broome, Murray Bridge, and Belmont hosts the main act prior to the Fremantle vs Port Adelaide game in the form of the Group 3 Belmont Sprint, because the only thing about a Port Adelaide game these days is checking to see which player gets threatened by Willie Rioli, and what excuses Kochie makes for Ken Hinkley.
So it’s on to Crazy Craig, and he’s already told me he needs a break after being up for the best part of 3 months, which probably explains why his tips have suddenly gone to shit after his massive winning streak… so that said, here’s Elvis Presley!
Militarize (No.5, Barrier 10) E/W in the Doomben Cup at Doomben (BR8), 3:57pm AEST
2000m WFA Group 1
Trainer: Chris Waller, Jockey: Tommy Berry, 59kg
Hello hello friends, it’s Craaaazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and I’ll be honest I am ready for a few weeks of rest, because despite what old mate Donny Trump says, you can get tired of winning….
But before that, we’ll go out with one from the FEATURE RACE of the winter at Doomben, the time-honoured Doomben Cup, the race that served as Rough Habit’s retirement fund in the early 1990s… and of course, it’s not winter until next Sunday!
How Crazy is that!
Anyway, stuff Antino and Pride of Jenni, I’ve decided to throw the dart and land on a complete enigma of a horse…. enigma being a perfect word to describe myself and Crazy Colin, in fact…
MILITARIZE.
Bloody hell, with a name like that I can just hear Midnight Oil blasting in the background… actually, that’s because Crazy Colin turned on his vinyl copy of Diesel and Dust!
He could finish next to last, he could run 10th, he could even run in the placings… as I said, an ENIGMA of a horse.
Enjoy your weekend folks, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
