Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town

The last Saturday of June, Royal Ascot is done with a couple of winners to the Australians in the form of Mark Zahra, and we have the last Group 1 of the 2024/25 season with the Tatt’s Tiara as part of the Tattersall’s raceday in Brisbane, with the Tattersall’s Stakes for the 2YOs, the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup, the Tattersall’s Gold Crown, the Tattersall’s Mile, and the Group 3 W.J. Healy Stakes.
More Tatts than a Caboolture shopping centre.
Some other races include a dodgy listed race at Rosehill, more racing from Pinjarra in the form of the Belmont Guineas, as Belmont is allegedly going to be back up and running in late July with the section of turf at the 150m mark already replaced, Caulfield hosts the MRC’s Robbie Laing tribute meeting after his memorial service on Friday, and looking at the country races, the Gatton Cup is on in the town between Toowoomba and Brisbane, and there’s a random meeting at Roebourne in northern WA, a town that was actually destroyed by a cyclone in 1872…. shame they’ve never rebuilt it.
So it’s on to Crazy Craig, and I didn’t even see any racing last week, but I did notice the madman’s pick last week got burned by a horse he successfully picked a few weeks ago… Marble Nine licking Cleo Cat at Flemington, because unlike Crazy Craig, he had LUCKY LIPS!
The ELO P(r)ick: Livin’ Thing (No.3, Barrier 5) in Race 5 at Rosehill (SR5), 1:20pm AEST
1100m 3YO BM72
Trainers: John O’Shea & Tom Charlton, Jockey: Jace McMurray (a3), 59kg
Hello hello friends it’s Craaaazy Craig, TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, back for one last Saturday in this financial year, and what a dodgy way to end it with several meetings that would put a glass eye to sleep…
A bit like a night at Crazy Colin’s house, I’d think!
Anyway, this week I’m going to start off at Rosehill, because I’ve seen an outstandingly named horse named Livin’ Thing, because he’s out of a mare called ELECTRIC LIGHT, which really narrowed the choice of name down to either Livin’ Thing or Telephone Line!
Or possibly Last Train To London, which was probably too many characters.
It’s a Livin’ Thing
It’s a terrible thing to lose!
It’s a givin’ thing
What a terrible thing to lose!
I’ve got no idea who Jace McMurray is, but he sounds like a name Rodney Rude used in his McDonald’s sketch.
P(r)ick No.2: Autumn Boy (No.5, Barrier 6) in Race 4 at Eagle Farm (BR4), 1:28pm AEST
1400m 2YO Listed Tattersall’s Stakes
Trainer: Chris Waller, Jockey: James McDonald, 57kg
Two big questions for us all.
Can Autumn Boy win in the WINTER…
And can you back a late-season 2-year-old in its second start after winning on debut at 51/1?
Yes I can, because I’m CRAZY!
P(r)ick No.3: Raikoke (No.6, Barrier 14) in Race 7 at Caulfield (MR7), 3:30pm AEST
1200m BM84 Handicap
Trainers: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr, Jockey: Jye McNeil, 58kg
Raikoke is a previous 2nd Up winner and should be better after peaking and fading 1st Up to finish 4th, but I’m not sold on that name for the simple fact that it sounds halfway between a crap Pokémon and a Finnish Formula One World Champion who stands as humanity’s only chance of defeating Keith Richards in a drinking contest…
Kimi Raikkonen.
Kimi Raikoke, Kimi Raikkonen’s drug loving twin.
Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, GAMBLE WITHIN REASON, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
