Crazy Craig’s Moby Pick of the Day: 19th July

Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town

The penultimate Saturday of the 2024/25 season, featuring the Winter Challenge at Rosehill to see off Rosehill, the Derby Cup in Derby, which was home to the last Leprosarium on the Australian mainland, Bunbury has to host the H.G. Bolton Sprint in what may be the last Saturday before Belmont is back up and running…

And we have the last meeting at Flemington for this season, featuring the Deane Lester Flemington Cup, and wasn’t it great to see SEN, fresh off buying RSN, honour Deane’s memory by axing the show (Breakfast with Harf) that featured Deane Lester’s quaddie for quite a few years.

Another interesting race at Flemington is the Bryerly Handicap for the 2-year-olds, which is one of the few 1800m 2YO races in Australia, although by this point in the season they may as well be 3-year-olds…. in a fortnight.

So it’s on to Crazy Craig, and it must be something with names beginning with C that causes absolute chaos to families… even Coldplay are in on the act now!

What an excellent band… they made 4 singles in one night!

The Moby Pick: Moby Dick (No.6, Barrier 11) E/W in Race 6 at Flemington (MR6), 3:05pm AEST

1200m BM84 VRC Member Colin Gilson Sprint

Trainers: Mick Price & Mick Kent Jnr, Jockey: Craig Williams, 57.5kg

Hello hello folks it’s Crazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and I’ve been reading about the carnage at RSN this week, and I can’t believe that I haven’t been sacked by Hutchie yet….

Because I don’t work at that shitheap!

Anyway, I’m dusting off my spear this week and doing something I tried to do back in March, and that’s harpoon the white whale that is MOBY DICK, and back then I tried harpooning the whale 1st Up, but somehow he’s still in the middle of a prep after 4 months with only a placing last start to show for it….

And you know what, I’ve got no reason to pick him on that basis, so it’s PERFECT FOR ME!

Still, after 4 months I’m still wondering…

Was the horse Moby Dick named after the legendary white whale, considering his dam is Queen of the Sea, or is he named after fabled nude nut American DJ Moby, who chose the name as he is a distant ancestor of Moby-Dick writer Herman Melville, and it’s a good thing he chose Moby, because the stage name Dick wouldn’t quite have the same ring to it…

Well, hopefully Moby can LIFT ME UP and get some $50 notes for the mothers with prams in Bairnsdale!

Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, GAMBLE WITHIN REASON, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
