Crazy Craig’s Pick of the Day: 7th February

Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town

As the Winter Olympics kick off in the planet of Europe, on we rumble to the first weekend of February, and we’ve got just 1 week to go until Group 1 racing returns for this season, and looking at the races this weekend Rosehill hosts the Inglis Millennium (One of the first decent Autumn 2YO races) and the Eskimo Prince, while Caulfield hosts a swag of Group races, including both Blue Diamond Preludes, the Autumn Stakes, the Rubiton Stakes, the Kevin Heffernan, the Peter Le Grand Stakes and the MRC Foundation Cup, and there’s Listed races at Morphetville and Ascot, but who cares about them.

So it’s on to Crazy Craig, and the long and the short of last week’s absence was that Craig went to Melbourne for the Australian Open Men’s Singles Semi Finals last Friday, and he was fully expecting to have a bit of time to send through his tips…

Only for the Semis to last 10 BLOODY HOURS.

Anyway, here’s the theme to Convoy!

The Bob Marley Pick: Star of Jamaica (No.5, Barrier 5) E/W in the Inglis Millennium at Randwick (SR7), 4pm AEDT

1100m 2YO Restricted Listed SW

Trainers: Chris & Corey Munce, Jockey: Zac Lloyd, 56.5kg

Hello hello everybody it’s Crazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and last week was a bigger ROYAL pain in the arse than Prince Andrew… I had everything lined up in my head when I headed down to Melbourne, and at this point you’re going to ask ‘Craig, why the hell didn’t you just send them in BEFORE you left for Melbourne?’

And my reply is that I’M CRAZY, that’s why!

So unfortunately much like everyone except Carlos Alcaraz and Elena Rybakina, I didn’t bloody win last weekend, which was probably a good thing because last week’s racing was SHIT, so this week I’ve resorted to the time-honoured Ponzi scheme of backing 2YO races, and I’ve settled on the Inglis Millennium, because I think there’s a horse that could either be a tribute to the Jamaican bobsled team in time for the Winter Olympics, or a tribute to the dreadlocked rasta who sent reggae into the mainstream…

Bob Marley, STAR OF JAMAICA.

Speaking of which, Bob Marley had The Wailers for a band…

It reminds me of the time many moons ago when I went for a beer with Mr Alfonse to the former Cricket Club Hotel in South Melbourne, and we met the deadset legend that was Richmond premiership ruckman ‘The Whale’ Brian Roberts, who was the publican at the time…

Forget about The Wailers, we had an ALE WITH THE WHALE!

Enjoy your Saturday folks, STAY DRY, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
