Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town

Alright friends, we have just 1 week to go until the Golden Slipper, and this weekend the feature running from the Rosehill Carnival sees the Group 1 Coolmore Classic for the fillies & mares, and funnily enough this year marks 40 years since the race (The TAD Kennedy Stakes) was first run as a Group 1, and 30 years since Coolmore first sponsored the race, and there’s a whole host of Group 2 support races, among them the Ajax Stakes, named after the legendary horse who was the shortest-priced beaten favourite to lose in Australian racing history (40/1 on in the 1939 Rawson Stakes and he was beaten by Spear Chief), the Phar Lap Stakes, because somehow the most legendary horse in Australian history only gets a Group 2 at the track that he broke his maiden at, and the final Golden Slipper lead-up races in the Magic Night and Pago Pago Stakes…
Other than that, Caulfield hosts the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes, one of the traditional lead-up races to the Australian Cup, even as the Peter Young winner hasn’t won the Australian Cup since Fiorente in 2014 (Having also won the Melbourne Cup that season), and if there’s anything on at Ascot, it’s probably not worth watching.
So it’s on to Crazy Craig, and my goodness what a result that was last week – Ahha Ahha getting the photo in Race 7 at Flemington to bring up a rare winner, and it was if Ahha Ahha said TAKE ON ME, because I’ve got LUCKY LIPS!
The Black Sorrows Pick: (Harley and) Verona Rose (No.4, Barrier 4) E/W in the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill (SR8), 4:35pm AEDT
1500m Group 1 Fillies & Mares Coolmore Classic
Trainer: Gary Portelli, Jockey: Craig Williams, 56kg
Hello hello everybody it’s Crazy Craig, TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and can you BELIEVE THAT, another bloody winner from yours truly, and the days of favourite backing have long disappeared as Ahha Ahha came in at $7, IF YOU DON’T MIND UMPIRE!
Ask we all expected, one of Oscar Piastri or Crazy Craig was bound to turn to shit last weekend… AND IT WASN’T ME!
Another fantastic result for the mothers with prams and the down on their luck folk of Bairnsdale, as the $50 notes and scratchies came flying out onto the streets, but we want to keep the good vibes rolling in the feature event of the day from Rosehill with the Coolmore, and I’ve gone for the Guy Walter winner Verona Rose, who has had a good prep thus far with a 3rd placing 1st Up and running over the top to win the aforementioned Guy Walter over Manaal!
Also, when you’ve got a name that sounds like something from Romeo and Juliet with a name like Rose, you can either go for a bit of Dire Straits, or Seal’s Kiss from a Rose…
But stuff that, here’s the Black Sorrows with Harley & Rose… or should I say, HARLEY & VERONA ROSE!
Enjoy your Saturday folks, STAY DRY, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
