With Wednesday night bowls at Manning Memorial called off due to the threat of thunderstorms (Which amazingly enough hit right as 6:30 came around) I was stuck on No Hope Avenue waiting until just after 9pm for the little Doneraile Court Dishlicker to go around and have a crack at the winning hat-trick, and her loyal owners Richard Price and Merv Roberts might just agree with me when I say the odds were somewhat against our favourite little Rampager.
Going up from her preferred 275m to 385m, up in grade from 5/6 to 4/5 against a dominant favourite named Straw Bear, the rain was falling at Cannington (Rule of thumb is smaller dogs don’t go well in the wet), but when you get her in Box 8, it’s like a KFC ad – Shut Up And Take My Money, and what a mighty plunge it was… $5 into $4.40.
By the looks of that move, Merv sold a few cars this week.
As I expected, the other dogs drifted back in fear at the sight of a crossing Honour Rampage, all except the rank outsider Shima Rock at 18-1, who won the race comfortably from Honour Rampage, and Joe Dailly trained the First 4 dogs home in the 7-dog field, as She’s A Woman was scratched on Wednesday afternoon, probably after realising who was in Box 8.
Anyway, if the Rampager draws Box 7 or 8 next Wednesday, you’ll damn well hear about it.
