Based on a series of plausible events in a regional Victorian town
Well friends, after the utter boredom of the race free week in Victoria, it’s the last day of the Southern Hemisphere racing season, and appropriately for the horses on the day before their birthdays it’s on a Saturday in 2021, and the fact that August is only a few hours away means the Darwin Cup Carnival is about to kick off with the Palmerston Sprint, and I could be wrong, but the race may have been named after the twice former British Prime Minister Lord Palmerston.
I’m sure the bloke formerly known as Henry Temple would’ve been thrilled knowing that a bunch of sun-fried Darwinians know their British Prime Ministers, from the Duke of Wellington to Lord Stanley through to Benjamin Disraeli and Lloyd George.
On a troubling note for you all, after a 6 week break to recharge his batteries, throw a few phones in the Mitchell River and put a lock on his fridge so Crazy Colin stops stealing his beer, Crazy Craig is back and raring to go, which would mean I usually slot in Lucky Lips by Cliff Richard, but as I’ve found out via his email to me, Craig was a fan of ZZ Top, and so as a tribute to the one and only Dusty Hill, this week’s theme is SHARP DRESSED MAN!
Sharp dressed man definitely doesn’t apply to either Crazy Craig or Crazy Colin.
Pick of the Day: Tuvalu (No.5, Barrier 5) in Race 5 at Moonee Valley, 3:10pm AEST
1514m 3YO Handicap
Trainer: Lindsey Smith, Jockey: Brett Prebble, 57kg
Hello hello again everyone, it’s Crazy Craig, the Boy From Bairnsdale, back after my little break, and if you’re wondering what I did on my break, well, I can tell you I did absolutely NOTHING OF NOTE!
Because I’m Crazy, that’s why!
So anyway, what a crap decision it was to have a race free week here in Victoria – If you ask your old mate Craig, if you really want to help out folks in the racing industry, why not just allow them to start shovelling shit out of stables at a reasonable hour, not 3:30 in the bloody morning!
Moving on, it’s time for the first Moonee Valley meeting in a few months, and I’m going to be bold here and take on the Race 5 favourite I’m Thunderstruck with the tiny Pacific nation of Tuvalu, trained by Lindsey Smith at his secret base in Warrnambool, which appears to operate in much the same way as International Rescue did out of some indiscreet Island that just happened to be owned by Jeff Tracy.
So after winning his first two starts just before the Autumn carnival, young Tuvalu returned at Flemington two weeks back with a solid 2nd behind I’m Thunderstruck, who did have a big fitness advantage being 3rd Up that day and won by a comfortable 4 lengths as Tuvalu didn’t follow his usual pattern and take the lead out of the gates, but I’m thinking with the benefit of the run, Tuvalu can show some solid natural progression, Brett Prebble can put in a good positive ride, and hopefully have I’m Thunderstruck up and chasing before the turn!
And so what – If Tuvalu gets done by I’m Thunderstruck, at least he can say he was beaten by a worthy favourite, but for now, he’s my PICK OF THE DAY.
Enjoy your Saturday everyone, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me CRAAAAAZY CRAIG!
