Prior to Friday night, Melbourne captain & ruckman Max Gawn’s career high of goals in a game was 3 on two separate occasions, the most recent being 2 years ago, and he’d only kicked multiple goals in a game twice this year.
By the halfway point of the 3rd Quarter, Big Maxy had kicked 5 goals without a miss, 4 of them coming in the space of 11 minutes:
1. The ‘World’s Tallest Small Forward’

2. The ‘Going, Going, Gawn’

3. The ‘Standard goal from a stoppage free kick’

The ‘Giving Geelong traumatic memories of Dustin Martin’

5. The ‘Now I’m Just Taking The Piss By This Point In Time’

In fact, Gawn kicked as many goals as Jeremy Cameron and Gary Rohan had disposals… combined.

And finally, at 208cm, Gawn is also now the tallest player to ever kick 5+ goals in a final, taking the record that Paul ‘Fish’ Salmon (206cm) had held since he kicked 6 goals for Essendon in the 1985 Grand Final.
