The Chalk Eaters Guide Review: 12th October

What an enjoyable day of racing, with both classic races being deadset barn burner finishes, and somehow, I came out clean on the other side.

Loving Gaby in Race 3 (G3 Thoroughbred Club) at Caulfield – 2nd

Amazing scenes- I had a hunch this was going to happen, and just sat back and watched the fireworks.

While I go off and go and cry in the shower, I’ll bring up a worthwhile note- Both California Zimbol and Loving Gaby are sired by I Am Invincible.

Flit in Race 6 (G1 1000 Guineas) at Caulfield- WINNER

Holy moly that was some kind of a finish, as Flit and Missile Mantra managed to claim the dogged Southbank right on the post in a massive 3-way go.

I thought for sure Missile Mantra had sprouted wings and nailed Flit on the post.

The judge thought otherwise.

Amazing what drawing a barrier can do- Flit jumped from 2 and saved ground- Missile Mantra drew 10 and had to spot the leaders 8 lengths.

The Inevitable in Race 9 (The Silver Eagle) at Randwick- WINNER

So you see, the winner is… The Inevitable.

What a nice little nag to watch- He looks like a Lego brick racing against Duplos, and yet he’s got a V10 for a motor, as Nash Rawiller found out.

He simply sat off the leaders, gave up trying to get a pull at the 600, peeled out, and then discovered that the little Two Headed Tasmanian was more than good enough to handle these Sydney milk drinkers.

You know what the funniest part was?

I didn’t even bloody well back him.

The Velvet King in Race 6 at Ascot- 2nd

No problems with the ride, and it turned out to be a good thing Pateman didn’t sit up alongside the leader, because crikey, what the hell was McNaught thinking trying to set a speed that Majinika couldn’t sustain.

It set up perfectly for Cup Night to come from the rear, and beat The Velvet King, who kept on finding plenty, and only went down by a half-head in a race that wasn’t run to suit.

Cup Night bends me over again, and meanwhile, I will keep tabs on Velvet.

Crazy Craig’s Tip Of The Day

LAYING Alligator Blood in Race 7 (G1 Caulfield Guineas) at Caulfield- CC Successful

For about 1500m of that Guineas, it seriously looked like the Gator was going to hold on and pull off a superb Guineas win for David Vandyke, having sat just behind the hot speed set by Roccabascerana most of the race, before shooting to the lead at the 250m and having 3L on the chargers, including Dalasan, who simply couldn’t find.

And then with 100 to go, the crushing weight of having to defeat the mental demon that is Crazy Craig had the Queenslander begging for the post, and then out of nothing but fat air, Super Seth came along with the turn of foot of Ben Cousins avoiding a booze bus, and won the Guineas like a thief in the night.

An excellent run by Alligator Blood, but not enough to avoid being a victim of Crazy Craig….. who is still Crazy Craig.
