Because Crazy Craig is somewhere giving away scratchies to the luckless folk of Bairnsdale

Bloody typical of the Boy From Bairnsdale… just as I had everything set up to go, he sends me a note to say he’s been out of the house since Wednesday doing charitable work, which in his case is buying several hundred dollars worth of scratchies and giving them away to people who ‘Look down on their luck’.
Ah, bless him.
Well, I can’t blame him for not caring about the horses, because it’s a crap Saturday slate this week, with Ascot getting called off due to a run of hot weather to make Cairns look cold:

Plus the first Saturday meeting at Moonee Valley since Cox Plate Day, some boring meetings at Gawler and Doomben, with the only feature race of note being the Listed Carrington Stakes at Randwick.
Honestly, you’d be better off watching the Australian Open or the Women’s Ashes… You might actually have a better chance of finding a winner.
So with all that said, it’s time for me to resort back to something I tried a fortnight back with reasonable success, and that’s a couple of Random music-related Picks of the Day, and this week’s song choice is the stock standard Saturday choice – LUCKY LIPS by Sir Cliff Richard:
Random Village People Pick: In The Navy (No.5, Barrier 5) in Race 1 at Gawler (AR1), 12:22pm ACDT
1100m 2YO SWP Coopers 2-Year-Old Plate
Trainer: Phillip Stokes, Jockey: Jason ‘Stubby’ Holder, 54.5kg
I’ll be honest, I’ve got no idea if she’ll win, considering it is a race full of unraced 2-year-olds, but hell, it’s the Village People:
IN THE NAVY!
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
IN THE NAVY!
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
IN THE NAVY!
Come on now, people, make a stand
IN THE NAVY, Can’t you see we need a hand
IN THE NAVY!
Come on, protect the mother land
IN THE NAVY!
Come on and join your fellow man
IN THE NAVY!
Come on people, and make a stand
IN THE NAVY, IN THE NAVY, IN THE NAVY!
Random The Hooters Pick: And We Danced (No.7, Barrier 5) in Race 4 at Randwick (SR4), 2:10pm AEDT
1600m Fillies & Mares BM78 Handicap
Trainer: Chris Waller, Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy
In fact, I think The Hooters Pick was the only Musical pick that didn’t win back on the 8th of January….. so it’s time for Round 2:
AND WE DANCED, like a wave on the ocean, romanced!
We were liars in love, AND WE DANCED!
Swept away for a moment by chance
And we danced, danced, and danced!
The something between an ABBA and a Sound of Music Pick: Mariamia (No.2, Barrier 1) in Race 9 at Moonee Valley (MR9), 5:40pm AEDT
1200m F&M BM70 Handicap
Trainer: Shane Stockdale, Jockey: Thomas Stockdale (a2), 60.5kg
What kind of a name is that meant to be… I’ve got no idea what to sing:
How do you solve a problem like Mariamia, here I go again!
My, my, how can I resist you?
Mariamia, does it show again
My, my, just how much I’ve missed you?
