Trying to improve on a superb record of last and second-last from 2 picks

Still, it could be worse…
Like, right now one of us could be an Essendon board member.
On we march through August and on to the first Group 1 of the new season, the Winx Stakes at Randwick, formerly known as the Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm, which barely even cracked Group 2 status until the wonder mare showed up, and as a result it’s become one of those races you didn’t even realise was a Group 1, much like the Surround Stakes in the Autumn.
Other than that it’s a dull nationwide day, with races like the Group 3 Toy Show, the Group 3 Show County, the Group 3 Premier’s Cup, plus the Carlyon Stakes card at Moonee Valley, although I suppose they can’t hold a candle to the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes, and I imagine Racing NSW will be keeping Kenny Callander at least 400 miles from Randwick in case he has to pronounce the name of the race.

“Shilver Shadow Shtakes! By Christ Tappy, the old tongue’s producin’ a shu-nami!”
And other than that, I would describe the day as being so uninteresting that the AFL’s Wooden Spoon race looks more promising than half the cards in Australia.
On another note, there’s a Bowls WA Raceday at Belmont, and obviously my brown paper bag to Perth Racing didn’t go through in time, because there’s no race named the ‘Manning Jack Attack’ Stakes, although they did something the bloody Premier didn’t do, and that’s recognise Kristina Krstic won a Gold medal.

Alright enough of that nonsense, here’s the thoughts of our resident lunatic Crazy Craig, because he’s got Lucky Lips!
Pick of the Day: Foujita San (No.5, Barrier 3) in Race 5 at Moonee Valley (MR5), 3:25pm AEST
1200m Listed 3YO McKenzie Stakes
Trainers: John Hawkes & his male offspring, Jockey: Jye McNeil, 56kg
Hello hello everyone it’s Craaaaazy Craig TBFB, Scratchie King of Bairnsdale, and last week you would’ve notice that my Pick of the Day ran last and my Value Pick ran second to last, but do you think that’s going to stop me dead in my tracks and knock my confidence around?
Shit no, because I never had any confidence to begin with!
Anyway, this week I’ve been doing my bit for the down on their luck by giving away $20 worth of scratchies, so I think I’m back in the good books with the universe just in time to bring home a Pick of the Day, and it might just come in the midway stages of the card at Moonee Death Valley, and it might just be the Japanese horse that isn’t a Japanese horse….
FOUJITA SAN.
Oooh, I’m turning Japanese, I really think so!
Anyway, it’s career start No.3 for Foujita, and the Maurice colt is 1st Up after his two starts last Autumn, when he ran a narrow 2nd to Zamborghini on debut at The Valley on March 18, in which they put puncture holes in the other 2 horses, and that was followed by a firebombing of the field at Sandown a few weeks later in April, when he officially won by 5.75 lengths!
Crazy I tell you, crazy!
Of course, I’ve potted rival horses before and been horribly wrong, which to be honest is my modus operandi, but looking at the field for the McKenzie, the only horses of note that our little samurai goes up against are what I’d describe as deadset chipscabs.
Crosswinds – Sounds like a drunken sailor!
Let’srollthedice – This ain’t Crown Casino!
And El Padrino…. Sounds like a car Chevrolet would make!
So there you go, I’ve probably burst his bubble and applied the kiss of death with some red lipstick I stole from Crazy Colin, but I’m confident with Foujita San, because he’s my PICK OF THE DAY.
Value Pick: Toomuchtobear (No.7, Barrier 10) E/W in Race 6 at Randwick (SR6), 2:25pm AEST
2000m Group 3 Quality ACJC Premier’s Cup
Trainer: Chris Waller, Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy, 53kg
On to the Value Pick, and it comes in the form of Chris Waller’s second-most fancied horse in the Premier’s Cup, Toomuchtobear:
– Stayer coming in 3rd Up off the back of two solid runs, the first being a 4th over the 1400m, then he ran 2nd in his last run over the 1500m at Rosehill 3 weeks back
– Light weight of 53kg
– 2 wins from 2 starts at Randwick, also has 2 wins from 3 goes at 2000m
And….
– I’m not all there, don’t you worry about that!
And, if you think that’s too much to Bear, wait until you see what happened when another Bear went into a beehive!
Now THAT was Toomuchtobear!
Enjoy your Saturday folks, stay safe, stay negative, KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, and remember, I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me Craaaaaazy Craig!
