Crazy Craig’s Tip of the Day: 27th February

An artist’s depiction of Crazy Craig at a racecourse

Before we begin, I’d like to say hello to anyone who had the displeasure of reading this week’s Tuesday report and my mention of Honour Rampage being primed for the last at Cannington, which wouldn’t be many of you, because when it came to the Mothra vs Godzilla fight that was Facebook vs the Australian Government, this website was one of those tiny Tokyo office buildings that gets wiped out by Godzilla’s tail.

Unfortunately, the Facebook blackout also means most of you didn’t see Crazy Craig pluck out Celebrity Queen in the dead-heated Oakleigh Plate last week – If Pikey had been any more horizontal and worn a red cape, he’d have got there:

So on that note, enough of me, ahead of another Super Saturday of Group 1 racing in Melbourne (The Australian Guineas) and Sydney (The Chipping Norton and Surround Stakes), let’s hope Crazy Craig’s Lucky Lips tip goes as well as Honour Rampage!

Cliff Richard may sound completely idiotic, but by heck it works

Hello hello friends, it’s Crazy Craig, the Boy From Bairnsdale, out to make it BACK TO BACK WINS with the Lucky Lips, and on a sad note, just yesterday I noticed that the champion jockey Jim Johnson had passed away after a fine knock of 92, and I tell you knackers, hearing about old Jim gave me some great memories of my young adult years, listening on the wireless as he booted home the likes of Gatum Gatum to a Melbourne Cup, Tobin Bronze with 61.5kg in a Caulfield Cup and two Cox Plates, and Rain Lover, one of only four horses in history to win back-to-back Melbourne Cups!

Here’s a history lesson for you kiddies – After 52 years, Jim Johnson and Rain Lover still hold the record winning margin for a Melbourne Cup, a record that might stand for a few more decades to come – 8 LENGTHS!

Of course, that 1969 Cup was thanks to Big Philou shitting himself on the morning of the race, but we won’t mention that!

So on the same topic of Group 1 races at Flemington, I’m focusing my lazy eye on headquarters this Saturday for the time-honoured Australian Guineas, and to make things interesting for you folks, I’m not backing Tagaloa, and instead, I’m sticking to last week’s Group 1-winning formula….

PICK THE SANDGROPER HORSE WITH PIKE ABOARD!

Yes knackers, when you call yourself ‘Crazy Craig’ you can’t be boring with favourites every time, so I’m licking my lucky lips for 12/1 pop Dom To Shoot, named after West Coast’s Grand Final hero Dom ‘The Magpie Murderer’ Sheed, and this is usually where you youngster ask me:

“But Crazy Craig, why would you pick against Tagaloa – Did you not see how well he won the CS Hayes with the 59.5kg AND beat Dom To Shoot as well?”

Let me tell you knackers, when there is value to be found, I WILL GO FOR IT, AND I DON’T CARE WHAT HAPPENS!

Dom To Shoot was never going to win that CS Hayes Stakes – He was 1st Up, he drew a wide barrier, had a bad start and got way too far back, then had to shift off heels, but I remind you, he still hit the line very well for a 5th place, which to me suggested he was a horse with improvement to come at the mile!

This time around, he’s got a much better barrier to settle around midfield, and with Craig Williams shifting his pearly whites over to Poland, on goes the great William Pike, who bears the initials W.A just to remind you of where he’s come from, just like another legend from the West, WALTER ALBERT LINDRUM.

How crazy is that!

And before you bang on about the other fancies in the race, if you ask me, they’re FRAUDS.

Ole Kirk has one foot in the breeding barn, Zou Dancer, more like Zou the hell are you, Aysar is a non-winning MILK DRINKER, Cherry Tortoni couldn’t even beat Johnny Get Angry, Poland got overrun by the Germans, and Tagaloa….

Actually, Tagaloa isn’t that bad of a horse!

Anyway folks, enjoy your weekend if you can, and Dom To Shoot is my PICK OF THE DAY, AND I DON’T CARE IF HE RUNS 5TH.

I’m Crazy Craig, and that’s why they call me CRAAAAAAZY CRAIG!

Honour Rampage had Box 7, Dom To Shoot has Barrier 7.

The omens are there.
